solstice past

If our planet were in balance, our northern and southern hemispheres would be void of all seasons, of variety of climate and the surprise of strange life forms from one place to the next. Happily, the earth is tilted, off-kilter. The other day, the northern hemisphere leaned as far back from the sun as it could, already nursing the hangover of winter. The longest night cocooned it, muting like snow.
Meanwhile we're drinking icy caipihrinas in summery Antarctica, toasting the never-setting sun of summer.
